The Youth of the Year program highlights young people ages 14-18 to showcase their talents and achievements, share their hopes and dreams, and work toward a bright and positive future. Candidates emerge through year-round recognition programs in their Clubs. These teens progress through state and regional events, culminating in a weeklong celebration in Washington, D.C., where one is named the National Youth of the Year – the highest honor bestowed upon a Club member. Youth of the Year candidates embody excellence in BGCA’s three priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Good character and Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles.
Our 2024 Youth of the Year! Ruby is 14 years old and attends the Discovery Academy within Lynn Tech. She has been a member of the BGCL for the past 3 years. Through these years, she has been actively involved in volunteering at My Brother's Table, a CIT for the BGCL summer programs as well as member of the Keystone club.
Ruby is fortunate to be part of such an amazing organization which has helped her personally gain the confidence she was seeking within herself. She is no longer afraid to dance, sing, socialize or voice her opinion. The club has given her a purpose and responsibility that she holds dear to her heart.
With this opportunity as the Youth of the Year, she is overwhelmed with joy knowing she can help make an impact to the younger generation. She looks forward to mentoring and being a positive role model for our members. The Boys & Girls Club of Lynn has helped shape her into the person that she is today, and she is forever grateful for what the future will bring!
